Find A Use For A Body Bag

Bookmark and Share

I get a lot of deliveries to the office. A lot of the time it's simply because my name is on a supplier account, so the package arrives. Is checked and gets handed over to one of our staff.

Of course I also get deliveries from Amazon and other places.

Yesterday's delivery was a bit "different"

A white body bag.

The problem now is, what the hell do I do with it?

While some of my staff are annoying at times, I haven't actually killed any of them *yet*. Besides, if I was going to kill any of my staff I'd want quick lime - not a body bag.

So does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do with it?

It seems like a waste letting it gather dust!

Google Map Oddities

I've been using Google maps quite a bit in the last few months to get me from point A to point B in cities that I don't know too well.

Most of the time the maps are accurate and the directions are good.

So what about this one?

Google map sydney

Granted, there could be some very good reasons why Google wants to route me by this rather circuitous route (and yes I did specify "walking", so it's not a "one way system" issue) but it still strikes me as odd ..

So much for the shortest distance between two points being a straight line ...

Green Party Backtrack On Twitter

The Irish Green Party have now deleted the tweet I mentioned the other day:

"Eamon Ryan will be on Morning Ireland to discuss, amongst other things, the Bill Cullen tweet. It's gone now, as the tone was inappropriate." (source Twitter)

If it was inappropriate and you recognise it as such, why was it put out there in the first place?

Or is it more a case of throwing inane comments out into cyberspace in the hope that nobody will call you on them?

And of course the tweet isn't "gone", as you can easily find it via twitter search:

Green Party Bill Cullen Insult

Expect much fumbling vagueness from Eamon Ryan on RTE's Morning Ireland. Or maybe they'll actually surprise us all?

Green Party Take Online Idiocy To A New Level

Irish political parties are trying to use online media. Unfortunately they're more "trying" than anything else.

Remember the Green Party spamming bloggers?

How about Fine Gael ripping off the BBC website?

Well it looks like the Green Party are definitely outdoing their competitors when it comes to online idiocy. Their official Twitter account posted this charming message earlier this evening:

"If a permatanned, snake-oil selling charlatan like Bill Cullen thinks we're doing the wrong thing, we must be doing the right thing, right?"

Here's a screenshot in case they remove it:
greenparty twitterI'm not a legal expert, but isn't that libellous?

If it's not actually libel, is it the sort of message a political party's official twitter account should be sending out?

Wouldn't their time be better spent doing something useful?

A New and Bizarre Approach To The Internet and Online Marketing

The internet is a weird and wonderful place.

This evening let's look at the "weird" and possibly even "bizarre".

As regulars readers probably know, I run several websites apart from my day job (I really should put "day" in inverted commas, as it's never really been 9 to 5), including IWF, which is a discussion forum for Irish internet professionals.

Users of the forum discuss topics that they're interested in and, naturally, link to websites they've come across.

(Last time I checked there weren't any laws against linking to websites, but maybe I was mistaken... I'm just not so sure anymore.)

Maybe I don't know anything about how the internet works, or anything about internet marketing or SEO, but I heard this rumour, now it was just a rumour, that links to websites were quite important. Maybe I just misheard it.

In any case I received an email earlier this evening from the owner of a website that someone had linked to demanding that the link be removed as it was against their linking policy and breached their copyright terms (I'm not linking to them directly, as that would be against their rules)

Am I alone in thinking that this is decidedly odd for a company that sells online marketing and SEO services?

UPDATE: The link I provided earlier was redirected to another person's website, so I have removed it.

Would you pay 45 euro for a bottle of water?

While I was doing my shopping this afternoon I came across these bottles of water.

They look nice, but they wouldn't exactly "blow you away", that is until you see the price tag - 45 euro a pop!

Bling water sells itself as being exclusive, but at that price I'd want to be endowed with special powers or something ...

McCain vs Obama

Why on earth anyone would want an action figure based on either McCain or Obama?

Oddly enough some people do.

Maybe Republicans and Democrats alike are using them a bit like voodoo dolls?

In any case according to Entertainment Earth the Obama action figures are selling nearly five times more than the McCain ones.

I'm not sure what you can infer from that useless bit of trivia, though it did amuse me nevertheless.

Bizarre Emails

When you own "odd" domains you become accustomed to getting rather odd emails. Some of the emails are genuine. Some are simply weird.

Armchair.ie has nothing to do with furniture. You don't need to be a genius to realise what the site is all about, yet every single day for the last two weeks I have got an email from a company in China offering me furniture. It's not random furniture either. Each email has included a photo of the piece of furniture in question and they've all been some form of armchair.

Of course with some of the other domains that I own the emails are even more bizarre.

People seem to have issues typing email addresses, so I get emails destined for variants of the domains that I hold. (I usually let them know they've made a mistake)

The oddest one to date has been about an outstanding invoice for condoms! Since they wouldn't accept that I had nothing to do with the domain's former owner I ended up disabling all email for that domain.

Digg

Image via Wikipedia

When I was in Paris a couple of weeks ago I spotted several large billboards from the local authorities advocating the use of condoms and safe sex.

I don't think I've ever seen similar ads in Ireland.

Now I'm not a big Digg user, but this post caught my attention.

It seems that Ireland is the most expensive place to have sex, since the price of condoms is so insanely high.
