Google Nanny Filter Breaks

Google Nanny Filter Breaks

I don’t like Google or anyone else telling me what sites I should or shouldn’t look at, so when their “nanny filter” broke today I had to giggle.

Doing a search for anything – no matter how “innocent” it might be will get you a page of results that are flagged as “harmful” for your computer.

See what I got when I did a search for “the pope”:

TechnicalJobs.ie Progress

TechnicalJobs.ie Progress

Thumbnail image for technicaljobs.ie logoLike any site, technicaljobs.ie isn’t going to be an overnight success.

Sure, it would be great if it was, but if it was easy then everyone would do it!

However it is nice to see that a few people have started posting jobs on the site.

There are currently 9 jobs listed, which is a very small number admittedly, but it’s a start.

Checking the website’s statistics isn’t overly encouraging, but “Rome wasn’t built in a day”…

It is getting some search engine traffic, but not a huge amount.

So it’s a bit of a catch 22 – no traffic means no job posts, which in turn means no content, which means no search engine results and no traffic ….

New Apple Products or Technical Glitch?

New Apple Products or Technical Glitch?

When the Apple store “goes dark” it’s usually because they’re adding new products.

However it’s gone dark this morning and as far as I know no new products were announced… or maybe I missed it..

Or, it could simply be that they’ve run into some technical issue that is affecting their site

Update: It seems it was a technical glitch or maintenance

Google Culls Its Flock – Jaiku and more gone

Google Culls Its Flock – Jaiku and more gone

The online chatter today is buzzing around the announcement by Google that they are cutting back on several or their services – including Jaiku.

I’ve always preferred Jaiku’s web interface to that of Twitter, as Jaiku supports threading – ie. you can actually follow a “conversation” without losing your mind!

Seemingly Jaiku isn’t being fully shutdown, but it won’t be developed any more and is going open source

Maybe this is a good thing?

MSN Messenger Broken on Adium and Pidgin

If, like me, you don’t use Windows, then you probably rely on Adium or Pidgin for instant messaging.

As of this morning neither Adium or Pidgin has not been able to connect to the MSN messenger servers for instant messaging.

If you’re on a Mac you can install the Microsoft Messenger for Mac software or you can downgrade Adium to an older version.

The Pidgin developers are aware of the issue and are promising to release a fix, though when remains to be seen

For more in depth technical details check out the post on the Adium blog

A Bit of SQL For Jobberbase Open Source Job Board

A Bit of SQL For Jobberbase Open Source Job Board

JobberBase is an open source job board application written in php / mysql.

It’s pretty powerful and is open source, so I’ve decided to use it for one of my many sideline projects that I promised myself to get off the ground this year.

Unfortunately there wasn’t any SQL for the counties of Ireland, so I did up a simple one last night.

You can grab it here

Thanks to Paul from BlackDog for recommending the script!
