I’m purchasing a PlayStation 3 this evening so I *will* have one by the end of the day… so I voted a pre-emptive ‘yes’!
I already own a load of DVD’s and, due to price, I don’t intend to buy a whole load of Blu Ray discs but I might just get one this evening (that I already have on DVD) and evaluate the difference in quality.
How have you found yours so far, Michele?

The difference in quality is amazing. I’m now seriously considering upgrading my player again to be able to take advantage of the newer profile

Have been too busy playing Grand Theft Auto since Friday (*drool*) and didn’t bother getting any Bluray discs due to cost. They’re unjustifiably expensive on the Irish high streets to be honest. Some decent deals to be had at Play.com though. I plan to pick up a few there.
You know anywhere else that do decent deals online, Michele?

re: PS3 – my understanding is that because you have internet access and essentially a PC built into it, firmware updates, bonus content and other stuff makes the pS3 well worth looking at. But I don’t have one yet – next purchase is a portable DVD player

@Bruse – it depends on your budget and what you’re looking for, but I’ve seen them for around the 200 euro mark recently
@Ken – You can pick up previously viewed BluRay discs in Xtravision for about 9 euro. I generally get them from the US vendors, as my player is a US import ie. I can’t play Irish discs

Well, it plays media files including MP3 and DivX and, of course, it’s a Playstation 3 – with immense processing power and the ability to go online with web browser, software download app, etc. (mouse and keyboard optional) – and of course it plays the best range of games on the market.
Oh and it’s a pretty bloody good (and still fairly well priced) BluRay player too to boot

Do you really see the difference between normal DVD and Blu Ray?
I am just curious as I didn’t have the chance to compare but I wonder if the current technology for TV sets (LCD & Plasma flat screen as well as good CRTs) can really show more detail than the normal DVD.
