Bupa Takeover - Light At The End of The Tunnel

I was out of the country when the Quinn Group announced that they were taking over BUPA. Personally I'm delighted. I just hope that the government take action with respect to VHI's position, as it is untenable. As a sidenote, I had tried to contact Vivas to sort out the company's health insurance plans, but they proved themselves to be completely inept.

What's to be delighted about? They'll take advantage of a three year moratorium they shouldn't be entitled to, and then they'll piss off just like BUPA did. Meantime Sean Quinn will train his staff to avoid making payouts to customers by all means necessary, like his motor insurance company. Who wins besides Sean Quinn?

I quess if his prices are competitive you'll save on your health insurance. Until you need it...

Adam

Would you prefer that VHI retained it's monopoly?

Michele

I'll ignore the sensationalism, since I'm not ten and I don't read the Star. VHI's situation is wrong, but something has to be done to level the playing field. Risk equalisation might not be the answer, but deregulating the market completely isn't either. Deregulation in a market like health insurance is a policy of politicians that don't have the brains to come up with any kind of policy at all. It's about as intelligent as selling Eircom off as a job lot.
