GoldenPages.ie – new features

by in Techie :: Techno ::, Web Design

Since the relaunch a few months ago it seems the GoldenPages.ie team have been working on adding new features, or else I never noticed them before.

The backend seems to have changed, as the main page is no longer served directly from the web root.
I'm not sure if it is my imagination or not, but there seemed to be a noticable delay when the main page loaded.
It also seems to have moved to Norwegian IP space, whereas previously it was in Belgium.
There seems to a bit of AJAX that remembers your previous search queries, though whether this would last from session to session or not is not clear (ie. I haven't had a chance to test it). It would be pretty cool if you could setup a profile of some kind on it, as I know I keep looking for the same numbers time and time again. Yes, I could write them down or put them in my phone or whatever, but the search query would probably give me a range of answers that I would find more useful than a single answer.
The "spelling suggestions" function is handy, but is cASeSEnsiTIve, which renders it pretty useless, but it's still a move in the right direction.
They've finally added an option to display results of businesses that "serve" an area, rather than being located in them. About time!
The previous geographical grouping was really frustrating!
I wonder what's in store next .....

Facelift or not, it is still utterly shite. My most recent frustration with it was trying to get the address or phone number for the Indian Embassy in Dublin.
It should be a fairly obvious one, but nope. It’s not in there.

But is it up to them or the goldenpage to make sure they are included?
