As I can't comment there I have to post here :)
I think it's an excellent idea, but I am also very aware that it would not suit all blogs. This one, for example, is quite varied in its content (or at least I try to make it so) and I wouldn't have any issue with mentioning someone's products if they fitted in.
I wouldn't, for example, be able to talk about products or services that conflict with my primary business activity.
Slugger is obviously not going to be suited to such endorsements, as it is more of an online news / commentary site than a personal blog.
